Brief History

Apr. 1898

 Tainan Normal School was founded and located in San Shan Emperor Temple on Hismen Road, Tainan. 

Aug. 1922

 The new school buildings on Shu-lin Street (the present location) was completed

Aug. 1943

 Pingtung Normal School became a branch campus of the school.

Jan. 1946

 The school was renamed Taiwan Provincial Tainan Normal School. Mr. Chung-Jen Chang was appointed its first principal.

Oct. 1946

 The Pingtung campus was promoted as another fully independent normal school.

Aug. 1962

 The school was promoted and renamed Taiwan Provincial Tainan Junior Teachers College.

Feb. 1976

 President Hsiang-tseng Keng announced "benevolence, wisdom, sincerity and justice" as the College motto.

Jul. 1987

 The College was promoted and named Taiwan Provincial Tainan Teachers College. Meanwhile, the College set up the following departments: Department of Elementary Education, Department of Education, Department of Social Studies Education, Department of Special education, Department of Mathematics and Science Education.

Jul. 1988

 The Institute of Teachers' In-service Education was established.
Jul. 1991 The College was promoted and renamed National Tainan Teachers College.
Jul. 1992 The College set up Graduate Institute of Elementary Education, Department of Music Education and Department of Early Childhood Education.
Dec. 1992 Dr. Tieh-hsiung Wu was appointed the eighth president.
Sep. 1993 The Ministry of Education selected the College as the South Center of National Education Information Service System.
Aug. 1996 The College set up Graduate Institute of Information Education.
Aug. 1997 The College set up Graduate Institute of Indigenous Culture.
Aug. 1998 The College set up Department of Art and Craft Education and Department of Physical Education.
Aug. 2000 The College set up Graduate Institute of the Department of Special Education.
Aug. 2001 The College set up Graduate  Institute of Elementary Education.
Aug. 2001 The  College set up Graduate Institute of the Department of Social Studies Education.
Aug. 2001 The College set up Graduate Institute of Nature Science Education Institute.
Dec. 2001

Dr. Jenq-Jye Hwang was appointed the ninth president.
Aug. 2002 The College set up Graduate Institute of Measurement and Statistics.
Aug. 2003 The College set up Graduate Institute of Visual Art.
Aug. 2003 The College set up Graduate Institute of Applied Mathematics.
Aug. 2003 The College set up Graduate Institute of Theatre.
Aug. 2003 The College set up Graduate Institute of Sport and Health.
Aug. 2003 The College set up Graduate Institute of Counseling Guidance.
Aug. 2003 The College set up Graduate Institute of Technology Development Communication.
Aug. 2003 The College set up Graduate Institute of Applied Language and Literature.
Aug. 2003 The College set up Graduate Institute of Environment and Ecology.
Aug. 2004 The University was promoted and renamed National University of Tainan.
Aug. 2004 The University set up Graduate Institute of Management of Technology.
Aug. 2004 The University set up Department of Biological Sciences and Technology.
Aug. 2004 The University set up Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering.
Aug. 2004 The University set up Department of Information and Learning Technology.
Aug. 2005 The University set up Graduate Institute of System Engineering.
Aug. 2005 The University set up Graduate Institute of Communication Engineering.
Aug. 2005 The University set up Department of Electronic Engineering.
Aug. 2005 The University set up Department of Environment and Energy.
Aug. 2006 The University set up College of Environment and Ecology.
Aug. 2006 The University set up Graduate Institute of Severe Disabilities.
Aug. 2006 The University set up Graduate Institute of Assistive Technology.
Aug. 2006 The University set up Department of Counseling and Guidance.
Aug. 2006 The University set up Department of Public Administration Management.

Aug. 2007 Dr. Hsiu-Shuang Huang was appointed the tenth president.
Aug. 2008 The University set up Ph.D Program, Institute of Engineering Technology.
Aug. 2008 The University set up Graduate Institute of Electrical Engineering.
Aug. 2008 The University set up Department of Business and Management.
